Founding Patron

The Julian Burton Burns Trust is very proud to have the Victor Smorgon Charitable Fund as our Founding Partner and the late Victor Smorgon AC as patron of the Burns Trust.

The Victor Smorgon Group has been one of Australia's most successful family businesses over the past century.

The Smorgon family success began in Lygon Street, Carlton in 1927 where they would build Australia's largest, privately owned industrial enterprise.

Their business and philanthropic success through the Victor Smorgon Charitable Fund has been built on a unique family culture that will continue to honour the memory of Victor Smorgon AC.

A message from our patron, the late Victor Smorgon AC:

I am honoured to be the inaugural Patron of the Julian Burton Burns Trust.

Every day, the services of the Julian Burton Burns Trust provide critical support to advance burns care for the communities of Australia.

I have experienced first hand, the trauma of burn injury when I sustained burns to over half of my body as a young child in Russia in 1918. The emotional and physical journey is long and lasts for a lifetime. Once you experience a burn, either personally or through someone you know, you will not forget the traumatic effect it has on your life and the lives of others around you.

I am proud to support the work of the Julian Burton Burns Trust.

Yours sincerely

Victor Smorgon AC

In an emergency call 000
Remove any clothing and jewellery from the affected area to allow effective cooling of the burn.
Cool the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes - this will stop the burning process and also help ease the pain.
Cover the burn with a clean lint free cloth or if it is a large area, cover loosely with cling wrap to lessen the chance of infection.
Seek medical advice if the burn is larger than a 20 cent piece or on the face, hands, feet or groin area.
